Nigerian rapper Phyno has dropped “Na Afa Nna (Freestyle),” an indigenous hip-hop track opening the campaign for his upcoming album SPIDER. The freestyle was released on July 28, 2026 and serves as the official prologue to the new project. Phyno raps entirely in Igbo across the record, delivering street wisdom and wordplay that recalls the style he built his reputation on.

The title translates to “In the Name of the Father,” a confident statement that sets the tone for what’s ahead. Phyno founded Penthauze Music and has been rapping since starting his career as a producer in 2003. He was born and raised in Enugu State but hails from Anambra State. His debut album No Guts No Glory arrived in March 2014 and included singles like “Ghost Mode” and “Man of the Year.” He followed that with Deal With It in 2019, Something To Live For in 2021, and Full Time Job in 2024.

Releasing “Na Afa Nna (Freestyle)” as a standalone preview is a calculated move. It reminds listeners of Phyno’s roots in indigenous rap while building anticipation for SPIDER without revealing too much. The freestyle format also allows him to flex lyrically without the structure of a full single.
