Nigerian Afro-dancehall star Ruger steps into a new era with “R.U. (Raw & Unfiltered), Vol.1,” a six-track EP built on honesty and range. The project lands independently through BlownBoy Entertainment, and it trades some of his usual bounce for deeper reflection. Ruger wrote and composed every record, while Kukbeat handles executive production and Milla Mix shapes the final sound.
However, the real conversation centers on the collaborations. “Private Chef” brings in MC Morena, while “Do Nothing” pulls together Musa Keys and Young Stunna. Those names matter because they stretch Ruger beyond his usual lane. MC Morena adds a fresh vocal texture, yet the Amapiano duo pushes the record into South African territory Ruger rarely visits. Each feature therefore serves a purpose, not just a credit.
Because the tracklist also includes “She Don’t Like Men,” “All Die,” “Loved at Home,” and “Jesus Loves Me,” the EP moves from introspection to spiritual nods without losing its melodic core. Ruger, born Michael Adebayo Olayinka, has always shifted between Afrobeat, dancehall, and pop since his Jonzing World days. Although this project widens that scope, it still feels personal.
