Maskandi veteran Mjik’jelwa steps back into the spotlight with “Ngiyaqhosha Ngiyaqholosha,” a studio effort that suits reflective moments and quiet evenings. The new album arrives through Mjikjelwa Music Production, and it keeps the traditional sound that has long defined his path.
Rich guitar lines and rhythmic storytelling carry the project, while Zulu-language lyricism touches on culture, relationships, resilience, and everyday life. Because the record stays rooted in classic Maskandi, it feels authentic from start to finish.
One standout is “Ngiphethe ishlangu,” an extended track about cultural pride, perseverance, and defending artistic identity. The title roughly translates to “I am carrying my shield,” so the message of standing firm runs deep throughout the song.
Other cuts include the title track, plus “Batshakadule,” “Akuphelele,” “Ngilala Ngingalele,” “Umuhle ntoyami,” “Indaba kabani,” “Amathembami,” and “Sesikhathele.” Yet the project never loses its cohesive mood, and Mjik’jelwa keeps the delivery steady and grounded.
