His vocal delivery shifts too, becoming less clipped and closer to actual singing in stretches. Certain pauses feel deliberate, as if each extra beat exists for a reason. While his earlier work like “Life Of A Hustler” moved fast through street tales, this record sits longer in whatever pain hides underneath.
Nothing gets neatly resolved by the end, however. The hurt stays present, honestly named rather than dressed up. No attempt is made to cure it or wrap things up cleanly. That refusal to force a happy ending gives “Through The Pain” its quiet power.
