Nigerian Afropop heavyweight Yemi Alade goes solo on “General Market,” a controlled Afrobeats cut from her seventh album. The record arrives as her first full-length project since Rebel Queen, and it carries no guest artist at all.
That means every vocal on “General Market” belongs to Yemi Alade alone, giving her room to stamp her mark on the album through presence rather than a collab. A handful of new solo recordings came with the release.
The track moves at a calmer tempo than some of the faster pieces on the album, but the rhythm still pushes clearly underneath. That slower pace lets the vocal parts breathe instead of fighting the beat.
She has enough songs to reach listeners in Nigeria, other African countries, and the diaspora. Long-running records like “Johnny” built that reach, so new solo material lands far beyond any one market.
