South African music gets a boost as PLXYBOII_017 joins Dolly Ditebogo, EeQue, Skyy T.53, Criimora b.k.z and Percy 5 on “Chommie yaka.”
The dance-driven house record brings several voices together for a celebratory, street-ready anthem. It arrived under KompoNation, while Thabo Blessing Ramothwala and Dolly Ditebogo Moagi are credited with composing the track.
The title carries its own meaning. “Chommie yaka” translates to “My Friend,” blending the South African slang “chommie,” which means friend or pal, with “yaka,” a possessive expression used in Northern Sotho and Setswana. So the phrase sets the tone for a song built around friendship, good times, and social energy.
Because six artists share the mic, “Chommie yaka” carries a strong collaborative feel throughout. That stacked lineup also makes it a fitting addition to the current South African dance music wave.
