Cape Town rap duo K.Keed and Orish have released “Qotho,” a track built on honesty and real friendship from Umgaranto II.
“Qotho” translates to honesty or sincerity in Southern African languages, and that meaning runs through the entire project. K.Keed and Orish built Umgaranto II from lived experience in Gugulethu, not polished industry narratives. The production stays restrained, with Orish keeping the arrangement lean and deliberate. That discipline holds the album together as a cohesive statement.
K.Keed, born Mihlali Koyana, released her Bite the Bullet album earlier this year and has been a consistent presence in South African hip hop since 2019. Her 2022 EP ALTER-EGO and continued collaborations with producers and rappers across the scene have kept her catalog grounded in real emotion. Orish has worked alongside her on several releases, and their chemistry is built on mutual respect. The duo’s joint work on Umgaranto II includes other tracks like “MPAHLA” and “Professor,” each adding another layer to the record’s narrative.
K.Keed raps with the kind of candor the title demands, never faking vulnerability or chasing trends. Her approach keeps every verse rooted in what’s actually happening around her, which is why her music never feels manufactured.
