Canadian rapper Dax returns with his thought-provoking new track “The American Dream,” a sharp cut from his upcoming album Anger Management.
The production leans on sparse, brooding instrumentation that lets his voice carry the weight. However, the beat builds slowly, so the dramatic tension grows with every bar. Dax layers his signature impassioned delivery over the arrangement, which makes the song feel like a spoken-word sermon rather than a typical rap record. Yet the track never loses its musical core, because the drums hit hard when the message peaks.
Dax, born Daniel Nwosu Jr., is a Nigerian-Canadian artist who rose to fame in 2017 with “Cash Me Outside.” He has since built a career on honest storytelling, while his albums like From A Man’s Perspective and What Is Life? have cemented his place in conscious hip-hop. Also, his influences include Tupac and Eminem, so that raw energy is always present.
This single, however, pushes his reflective side even further.
