Arusha rap veterans Nako 2 Nako are back with “Hawahemi Vol. 2,” a new album from the N2N Africa crew. The project lands as a sequel to their earlier Hawahemi series, and it keeps the group planted inside Tanzania’s rap conversation. Production carries much of the weight here, because the crew split the boards between two different hands.
P-Funk Majani, a legendary name in the game, built “Mbele Ya Muda,” which means “Ahead of Time.” That record pulls in Lord Eyes, Mweusi, Fido Vato, and Ibra Da Hustla. Paul Maker of Sound God Production handled “Hawatujui,” and he leans on traditional boom-bap instead. Stopa Rhymecca features on that one, while “Footwork” also rides along on the rollout.
So the album moves between eras without losing its footing. Nako 2 Nako have held a place in Bongo Hip-Hop for years, yet they still sound like a crew watching the clock instead of chasing it.
