Sam Fender – Rein Me In (with Olivia Dean)

Sam Fender and Olivia Dean turned a solo album cut into a record-breaking duet with “Rein Me In.” Fender wrote it for his third album People Watching, then Dean added a verse from the female perspective after the two performed it together at his London Stadium show in June 2025.

The writing carries the weight here. Fender’s verses hold the guilt and the urge to bolt, begging not to be reined in because stopping means feeling the pain he has been numbing. Dean answers softer but firmer, telling him there is nothing brave about walking alone and asking him to come home to her tenderness.

So “Rein Me In” never turns into a shouting match. The arrangement sits on a jazzy frame with piano and saxophone underneath, and the two voices split the story cleanly between them.

The song kept going after its first number one. It won Song of the Year at the 2026 BRIT Awards, then returned to the top and spent nineteen non-consecutive weeks at number one, overtaking Frankie Laine’s 1953 record for the longest-running UK number one single ever. Fender told BBC Radio 1 he was speechless, then thanked Dean directly, saying it would not have happened without her.
