Sminofu joins forces with vocal sensation Njabulo Langa on the new Maskandi record “Umalumekazi,” a collaboration worth hearing.
The record sits on his studio project iTekisi, and it leans hard into that deeply rooted, culturally rich Maskandi sound he has built his name around. Njabulo Langa brings a vocal presence that fits the mood of the song well.
For anyone following Sminofu’s run of releases, “Umalumekazi” feels like another deliberate step. He keeps his storytelling sharp here, while the guest turn gives the record a different texture. The pairing does not feel random at all.
Maskandi fans who have been tracking his output will recognize the direction. But the Njabulo Langa feature opens the song to listeners who might not usually sit with the genre.
