Sweet Music Entertainment has released “Wena,” a record the label built around a single isiZulu word for addressing one person.
In isiZulu and several other Southern African languages, the word means you, spoken when someone is addressing an individual rather than a group. That directness is central to the title, which points at one particular listener rather than making a general statement.
Depending on the voice carrying it, the word can work as a love call, a challenge, a thank you, or a soft scolding, according to the release. The record leans on that range, with a short, direct hook a crowd can pick up on a first listen. “Wena” is available for download.
