Tame Impala returns with “Loser,” a psychedelic pop and funk-infused track that finds Kevin Parker at his most emotionally exposed. The Australian project’s latest single arrives as part of the album Deadbeat, with Parker handling all writing and production duties himself.
Because Parker wrote, recorded, and produced everything alone, “Loser” feels like a pure distillation of his creative instincts. The song wraps dreamy melodies around funky rhythms while exploring isolation, self-doubt, and emotional distance. Its inclusion in Spider-Man: Brand New Day gave the track wider reach, as those themes of loneliness connected with the film’s story.
Turkish legend Barış Manço provided part of the inspiration here, which explains the vintage instrumentation woven through modern psychedelic textures. The track earned a Song of the Year nomination at the 2026 APRA Music Awards. Sam Kristofski directed the video, with Joe Keery and Beck both appearing on screen.
Tame Impala’s catalogue stretches from the debut Innerspeaker through Currents, always shifting between psychedelic rock and pop.
