South African DJ and producer Dlala Thukzin packs “Ember” with Kabza De Small, Young Stunna, Sino Msolo and Felo Le Tee. The Durban-born producer calls on the country’s dance music scene for a 10-track album. But he does not let the guest list carry the whole project alone.
“Batshele” stands out early, with DankieBoi, Kabza De Small and Young Stunna sharing one recording. Sino Msolo appears on “Kuwe,” while JNR SA joins him on that same track. However, the features run deeper than the first few names suggest. “Imizwa” brings Sino Msolo, DJ Arabic and Funky Qla together, and “Monday” pairs Argento Dust with Felo Le Tee. Froote, Nitefreak and DJ Cliad also link up on “Stop & Go.”
The rest of “Ember” keeps that spread going. Zeh McGeba features on “Sobuye Sbonane,” while Tribee of Afro, Sykes and Mpho.Wav join forces on “Ithuba.” Tracy and JNR DE ROCKA close things out on “Wela.”
His sound moves between Afro-house, Amapiano and 3-Step, so the album pulls from more than one corner of the dancefloor. Which track off “Ember” have you had on repeat? Drop your pick in the comments below.
