Fireboy DML pushes the production right to the front on “BY FIRE!,” a record that is built on tension rather than comfort. The track lands as the second cut on “ZUKO!,” the album he named after the fiery prince from “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” It arrives through YBNL Nation and EMPIRE.
The arrangement does most of the talking here. There is no guest verse, so the beat carries the weight alone while his voice stays low and deliberate. Nothing rushes. The drums sit back, the melody circles, and the whole thing feels like it was mixed for headphones rather than a crowded room.
Fireboy DML, born Adedamola Adefolahan, signed with Olamide’s YBNL Nation in 2018. He has since put out four studio albums, including “APOLLO” and “Playboy.”
Lyrically, “BY FIRE!” leans on the prayer phrase “die by fire,” a line familiar from Nigerian prayer-ministry language. So the song works as spiritual warfare set to a slow groove, and the fire doubles as both shield and fuel.
