Welsh singer Jamie Miller has turned a warning-sign anthem into a chart-topping moment, as “Babydoll” hits the top of the UK singles chart. The record blends warm retro-soul with horns and saxophone instead of chasing a synthetic pop sound. He wrote it alongside Hayley Warner and Michael Blum, with Blum producing and playing piano, guitar, synth, and bass.
Its rise was steady rather than sudden. The song entered the UK chart at No. 84 in September, broke into the top ten weeks later, and reached No. 1 in late October. A TikTok two-step choreography trend, sparked by Jennifer Love Hewitt and picked up by Julianne Hough, Lucy Hale, and Trisha Paytas, pushed it further. A remixed version with actor Antonio Cipriano followed.
The chart result carries weight beyond Miller himself. He became the first Welsh artist in 15 years to top the UK singles chart. He is also the first Welsh solo male to do so in 41 years, since Shakin’ Stevens in 1985. For an artist who once considered quitting music entirely, that is no small thing.
