South African rapper Kota Embassy is back as “Kwaito” lands on his new album “Grootman Series II,” with Dj Mremz, Ivy Beatz and Goitse Levati. The track is the ninth cut on the 12-track project, so it sits deep in the running order.
That position matters, because the record carries weight in the middle of the album. Dj Mremz, Ivy Beatz and Goitse Levati each shape the sound and structure here. Their contributions layer the song, so the arrangement builds rather than sits still.
“Kwaito” also gives the wider setting of the project a clear voice. The album is a targeted effort from Kota Embassy, and this collaboration speaks for the current South African music landscape. The beat moves with intent, but the groove stays grounded.
Records like this one show how much a guest list can change a song’s frame. Have you listened to “Kwaito” yet? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
