Kunmie’s debut album 22 has finally arrived, and it is everything fans of his breakout hit “Arike” hoped for and more. The 13-track project dropped at midnight on August 14, giving the Nigerian R&B and Afrobeats artist room to stretch his smooth, emotionally driven sound across a full body of work.
Released through CiDAR Africa and AltMusic HQ, with licensing by ONErpm, 22 opens with “5AM” featuring Phyno. That sets a strong tone, but the album also pulls in Lojay on “Gorgeous,” Wizard Chan on “Unfiltered,” and Zlatan on “Pressure.” G4ZI appears on “Laye Mi,” while Joeboy joins for “Solace II.” However, Kunmie carries several tracks alone, including “Tonight,” “Confession,” “Answer Me,” and “Prisoner.”
For those unfamiliar, Kunmie is an independent artist from Lagos who went viral with “Arike” in 2025. That song became a TikTok staple, and its success built real anticipation for this debut. Because he operates without a label machine, the pressure to deliver sat squarely on his shoulders.
Yet 22 meets that expectation head-on. It blends romance, vulnerability, and youthful energy while keeping his melodic identity intact. So the album does more than repeat past glory; it sets a foundation for whatever comes next.
