American indie folk band Lord Huron delivers a heartbreaking classic titled “The Night We Met” from the “Strange Trails” album. The title says it all, because the song looks back at where a love story began. Ben Schneider leads the band, and the record came out in 2015. It found a much bigger audience years later after a hit TV show used it. So many younger listeners now know it as a late-night sad song.
The production stays slow and haunting. Soft guitar and a steady drum pulse drive “The Night We Met,” while a deep bass hums underneath. Echoing reverb fills the gaps, so the sound feels like an empty room at midnight. The band keeps everything simple, and nothing crowds the vocal. It’s sad, slow and easy to replay.
Ben Schneider sings in a low, aching tone. He sounds worn out and honest, so each line carries real weight. His voice rises only when the pain gets too heavy to hold back. The lyrics follow a man begging to go back in time and undo a mistake. He wants to return to the night he first met her, so the regret hits hard. Because the chorus repeats, the plea sticks in your head.
