Kilogbede Records’ Mavo turns a fun catchphrase into a full solo single with “Find My Babe,” and the concept works as promised. So this one finds him flying alone instead of sharing the booth.
Because the idea springs from a sentence his admirers already know from conversation, turning “find my babe” enthusiasm into a whole Afrobeats tune feels natural. That phrase-first approach to writing has characterized Mavo’s best work. “Escaladizzy,” “Shakabulizzy,” and “BODY (danz)” all expanded their audiences thanks to expressions that moved faster than the tunes themselves. Yet “Find My Babe” follows an established instinct instead of recreating the wheel.
The solo format matters here. After a string of collaborations with MOLIY on “PRETTY MAMI,” AJ Tracey on “Poison (Panya),” and the entire “Business” album, returning to a solo record allows his personality to take center stage. His conversational voice and slang-heavy language sit front and center over a light, upbeat Afrobeats groove. However, that groove gives enough space for every line to land properly.
