Buyelekhaya by Nontokozo Mkhize Ft. Thami Mthabela

Nontokozo Mkhize – Buyelekhaya (feat. Thami Mthabela)

Nontokozo Mkhize and Thami Mthabela join forces as “Buyelekhaya,” a gospel record treating homecoming as both invitation and promise for weary listeners. The Zulu title means “return home,” so the song carries a clear message from its first line.

It sits third on Mkhize’s six-track EP 27:27, right where the project shifts from praise into deeper reflection. Lebohang Lequoa produced the record, and it runs just under four minutes. The lyric opens with a direct address to anyone who has lost hope, telling them to go back home. It repeats that instruction until it settles, then the chorus widens into proclamation. Jesus is named there as healer, reconciler, restorer, and advocate.

Mthabela arrives as a guest rather than a co-lead, and his verse adds texture without pulling “Buyelekhaya” away from its centre. Mkhize is a 27-year-old vocalist with a background as a chorister and composer. She has built her catalog around songs meant to strengthen a listener’s relationship with God, so this fits that mission without turning preachy.

The numbers have followed quietly. The track peaked at No. 32 on the Spotify South Africa chart and has pulled hundreds of thousands of streams since arriving in late August. For an EP cut with no major-label push, that is a steady showing.
