Fuji heavyweight Pasuma joins Terry Apala on a genre-bridging new record titled “Apala Fuji.” The title says it all, since two Yoruba traditions now share one beat.

Fuji and apala both grew out of Yoruba street music, and fans have argued for decades about which one hits harder. Pasuma carries the fuji crown, while Terry has pushed apala back onto young playlists. So a joint record looks like a peace treaty with a party attached.

Expect talking drums, rattling sekere and a deep bass that rolls instead of knocks. Apala’s sharp agidigbo thumb piano probably weaves through the fuji percussion. Together, the two styles should build a groove that feels both old and fresh.

Pasuma comes in with his raspy, commanding voice and a flood of praise lines. He drops names and proverbs like a man at the head table of an owambe. His timing against the drums stays sharp, so the veteran status shows without any shouting.

Terry Apala answers with a warmer, more melodic tone and a lighter step. He sings like a younger cousin showing respect while holding his own corner. The lyrics probably salute culture, hustle and the music that raised them, and a repeated chorus line lets the crowd answer back.
