Phyno has a new solo record titled “Ask Of Me Now” that lands right when fans want rap with a message. The Penthauze leader pulls this one from his studio effort “Let That Sink In (LTSI).”
It is a direct, introspective cut with no guest verses attached. Phyno handles the whole thing alone, and that solitude suits the song’s mood.
The production is somber and mid-tempo, built on banging kick drums and snappy percussion shakers. A deep, rolling bassline sits underneath, while haunting melodic touches drift over the rhythm. There is plenty of room to breathe in the mix.
On the mic, Phyno moves with his usual raspy flow and seasoned delivery. He trades cutting Igbo proverbs for contemplative street poetry, then switches into punchy English bars.
The subject matter is clear enough. “Ask Of Me Now” takes aim at fair-weather friends and naysayers. Phyno reflects on his earned status and his self-produced legacy in the game.
It is the kind of track that fits a quiet evening or a long ride, when you want bars that carry weight.
