Yaw Tog has linked up with producer SectorMadeIt once again for “AKATAPIANO,” a new single with a full video attached. The record arrives through TogLife Records, and it keeps the Kumasi rapper moving further away from the drill sound that first carried his name across borders. The beat is the story here, built around amapiano’s log drum bounce while still leaving room for rap delivery on top.
SectorMadeIt and Yaw Tog already share a working history, so the chemistry on “AKATAPIANO” does not feel like a first-time experiment. The title itself nods to two sounds at once, Asakaa and amapiano, which come from different corners of the continent. Yet the arrangement holds them together without forcing either one to carry the whole song.
For anyone late to the wave, Yaw Tog broke out of Kumasi with “Sore,” a record that later got a remix with Stormzy. He has since stacked up EPs and singles, including “Tog City” and “Time,” while building his catalog largely through independent moves.
Going the amapiano route opens a different lane for him, one that leans on groove rather than pure bars. It also shows a rapper willing to test what his audience will follow him into.
