South African singer and rapper Dzo 729 keeps the ride smooth on his new record “Soul Cruise,” a soft groove for long drives. The title sets the scene before a single note lands.
Production carries this one. A gentle log drum anchors the beat while a rubbery bass moves underneath it. Airy keys float over the top, and a light shaker holds the time. Nothing slams, so the whole arrangement stays relaxed from start to finish.
Dzo 729 takes the wheel with a half-sung delivery on “Soul Cruise.” He drifts between talk and melody, and his tone stays cool even when the lines turn personal. Small ad-libs fill the gaps like a passenger humming along. No feature appears, so the story stays in one lane throughout.
He sings about easy love, good company and leaving worries at the last junction. The lines run short, so you catch them on the first spin. It follows “Soulful Bliss,” which he dropped only a day or so before, and the two titles lean soft in the same way.
