South African artist Maqhinga Hadebe opens his new album with “Ukusmile,” the first song on a 13-track project called “Woza 2030.”
The record arrives as a 2026 South African production, and it carries a clear job. As the opening cut, “Ukusmile” has to introduce the album’s sound and its themes at once. It also has to make a listener want to keep going through the other twelve tracks.
That placement looks deliberate rather than accidental. The song welcomes people into the artistic world that unfolds across the full body of work. It also sets the tone for what follows, both thematically and sonically.
For Maqhinga Hadebe, the project marks a milestone in his discography. It brings a uniquely South African perspective to the table, and the lead track carries much of that weight from the very start.
