JIKIJIKI – Siyakubongela Mzala

South African maskandi singer JIKIJIKI has released Siyakubongela Mzala, a track congratulating a cousin, as part of his Game On project.

The song runs 3 minutes and 13 seconds and sits at track seven on the project. One listing puts Game On at seven tracks, which would make this the closer.

The title loosely translates as congratulations, while mzala is the Zulu word for cousin. One site describes a joyful, triumphant tone, and the lyrics lean on appreciation and recognition. Several sites call the song a celebration of community.

Maskandi is a traditional Zulu folk style, sometimes called the Zulu blues. Singers still turn real-life joys and sorrows into songs, and Spotify says nearly half of its listeners are under 35.

JIKIJIKI also appears on STOP and GO with uMnotho. Music In Africa lists that record among top maskandi songs of the year.
