Slowdog – Ego Ft. Kolaboy & Funny Dawg

Veteran Igbo rapper Slowdog taps Kolaboy and Funny Dawg for “Ego,” a record built around money talk and the daily hustle. The Igbo word ego means money, so the title carries its own meaning. Kelvin U handled the beat at oDIA Sound Lab. Slowdog and Kelvin U have linked before, because Dorime (Ur Mama Don Chop?) lists the producer. One write-up calls the beat punchy while praising the witty Igbo flows riding over it.

Delivery carries “Ego” more than anything else. Short, repeated money expressions run through the track, so the focus stays on cash and a better life. Slowdog sets the tone as a pioneer of indigenous Igbo rap, a style rooted in the south east. Kolaboy, an Enugu-born rapper, builds his lines from stories of his own life. Funny Dawg adds another layer, and he wears several hats, among them actor and sound engineer.

The three of them share history too. Kolaboy and Slowdog already appear together on Debit Alert, where Slowdog guested on a Caution Lxe production. They also both show up on Ayakata, an Anyidons record. So “Ego” picks up a conversation the two have been having for a while. Kelvin U keeps the energy tight underneath them.
