American R&B singer Mariah the Scientist has released a new record titled “Is It a Crime,” with guest vocals from Kali Uchis. The two artists trade lines over production the source describes as soft and hazy.
The song pairs Mariah the Scientist, described as having built her name on honest, late-night love songs, with Kali Uchis, who brings what the source calls a dreamy, Latin-tinged pop edge. The pairing is presented as a match for two voices suited to a slow, sultry groove.
Uchis answers with a silky, laid-back delivery that gives the song a second side. According to the source, the lyrics seem to ask whether wanting someone this badly is wrong, though neither woman sounds sorry. The hook repeats, so the question lingers.
The source states that the two voices blend without a fight and the beat never rushes, calling the result sweet and sultry and well suited to repeat play.
“Is It a Crime” is available now. The source suggests it for a late drive or a slow night in.
