South African Maskandi group Royal Messengers are back with a full-length project as they drop “IFONI KA DALI,” their 12-track album.
The album gives fans plenty to sit with, because almost every song runs between four and five minutes. “Yeka iCellphone” stretches to 6:03, while “Ezibhedlela” and “uSawula” stay just under four.
Faith and prayer carry the whole record, so gratitude and trust in God shape most of the writing. Gospel touches sit inside the Maskandi frame, which keeps the sound grounded in tradition.
The group keeps guests to a minimum. Fanele appears on “uSawula,” but every other track belongs to Royal Messengers alone.
Track titles mix devotion with modern life. “iFoni kaDali,” “Yeka iCellphone,” and “Online” all point to everyday things, which gives the album a fresh angle.
Royal Messengers have built a steady catalogue over the years. Past releases include “Kwa-Nongoma Kungenhla,” “Sisemlandweni Nezwe Liyavuma,” and “Dear Msakazi Iyangdina Lento.”
