American singer-songwriter sombr steps away from pop gloss on “My Body Isn’t Ready,” a stark ballad about insecurity and self-image. That first line sets the tone before the arrangement settles.
The record is the third single from his forthcoming second album, and it arrived through Warner Records on June 25, 2026. But the real story is how the song is built. sombr co-produced it with Tony Berg, and together they chose restraint over shine.
There is no big drop and no glossy finish. Instead, a contemplative slow-burn rolls out and leaves room for the confession to land. That space matters, because the writing is brutally vulnerable. sombr sings about wanting someone yet feeling held back by the mirror.
The music video, directed by Gus Black, pushes the same idea with surreal imagery. It shows sombr sealing himself inside a papier-mâché shell at a party before connecting with actress Inde Navarrette. He also performed the song live for the first time on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon the day it dropped.
According to sombr, the song comes from a deeply personal place. He said he wrote it about his own lifelong struggle with body perception. He hopes others dealing with similar feelings know they are not alone. Does the arrangement land for you? Drop your take in the comments below.
