Nigerian gospel singer TY Bello returns with “Tafi,” a worship record featuring Tomi Favored from a larger body of work. The song lands as the fourth track on I Speak Lion, one half of the double-album release that also includes I Speak Lamb. Both projects arrived after roughly two years of quiet from the worship leader, so the scale of the comeback says plenty about where she stands in the genre.
An earlier version of “Tafi” circulated as “Passover-Tafi,” a nine-minute spontaneous worship recording credited to Tomi Favored and Ty Bello. That cut ran just under ten minutes and belonged to the Spontaneous Worship At TY Bello series. The new album placement gives the same worship moment a second life, while pulling it into a twenty-track collection that moves across moods and tempos.
TY Bello was born Toyin Shokefun Bello in Ogun State and studied economics at the University of Lagos. She first broke through with the gospel band Kush before building a solo career that includes “Greenland” and “Nobody Else.” She records under North Avenue and has shared space with names like Sinach and Nathaniel Bassey.
Double albums rarely hold together this well, but gospel has always rewarded patience over quick hits.
