South African DJ and producer DJ Stoks gives four guests room to trade lines on his new song “uTHANDO.”
The record sits fourth on his five-track EP “LET LOVE BLOOM,” which landed on 14 October. It runs just over six minutes, and it is sung in Zulu.
Four voices carry this one, and each gets space to stretch. Miglow opens the floor before C-Moody steps in. T-Drum and Brysonfr then pull the mood somewhere deeper. Nobody rushes a verse, so the groove breathes.
It also fits a busy run for DJ Stoks. “LERATO LA MAFARATLHATLHA” came from the same EP, while “MAMAZALA” and the album “Sculptured” sit behind him. He has worked with DJ Jaivane and Kelvin Momo too.
That workload explains the pull around his name right now. Yet the singing here does the heavy lifting, not the drum programming.
Long vocal cuts rarely get this much patience in local dance music. So “uTHANDO” feels like a small statement about where the sound can go.
What do you make of the vocal run on this one? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
