Maskandi artist IGqumelasha keeps building on the momentum of Ize Leze with another cut from the project, “Izingovolo” featuring ukhoz’olumpunga. The record sits sixth in the eight-track sequence, so it lands deep enough to shift the mood of the tape. It also carries a guest verse, which gives the arrangement a second voice to work against.
IGqumelasha is a South African maskandi act with a growing catalogue behind the name. Past releases include the albums “Wabisha” and “Wedlamanzi,” plus the single “Duduzekani” and the EP “Angichomi.” He has also linked with Phathizwe Ntuli on “Ngizophumelela,” so collaboration is not new territory here.
The production leans on that pairing. “Izingovolo” is built around a steady maskandi groove, with the guitar work and vocal call-and-response doing most of the heavy lifting. Because ukhoz’olumpunga steps in mid-record, the track gains a different texture without losing its footing.
