American rapper Jack Harlow has released “Sweet Action II,” a seven-track EP that brings back a title from his early career. The project lands six years after the original Sweet Action, yet it moves in a different direction. Harlow leans into R&B here, especially the sounds that ruled the late 1990s and early 2000s. Romance carries much of the subject matter, but jealousy and the struggle to move on also surface.
“Sweet Action II” keeps its guest list tight, and the standout is “TOO SOON,” featuring Babyface. The legendary R&B singer brings experience to a record built on Harlow’s newer musical direction. Babyface also shapes the song’s emotional character. That pairing gives the EP its most interesting vocal moment, because two very different deliveries share one track.
The opening song, “SIGNORA,” sets the romantic tone early. Other cuts include “SHE GETS ME,” “610 MAGNOLIA,” “HOLD BACK,” “PRESSURE” and “MOVE ON.” All seven songs run short, so the whole EP clocks in at just over 15 minutes. Harlow wastes little time on any of them, and the brevity keeps the vocal performances front and center.
Short projects like this rarely leave room to hide, so every delivery has to land quickly. What do you make of “Sweet Action II” so far? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
