Pray for Me – A Song for Hard Times

Kenyan Kikuyu gospel artist Nganga Wa Kabari keeps his momentum going with “Muroconoka,” a record that is already climbing the charts. The song has reached No. 9 on Kenya’s YouTube charts, while its official video has appeared on trending lists more than once.

That same chart recently saw Diamond Platnumz overtake Kapitani for the top spot. So “Muroconoka” sits among major names, and a Kikuyu gospel record holding that space says plenty about the pull of local-language gospel.

Fans have carried the song to TikTok as well. Lyric clips bearing the song’s name and the artist’s name keep circulating, and that fan-made sharing helps a Kikuyu-language record travel beyond its home audience. Gospel listeners often replay songs with a strong message, and these clips hint that fans want to learn the words.

Nganga Wa Kabari works in Kikuyu gospel, yet his writing often asks hard questions. His single “Kiugo Kia Ngai” critiques commercialization of religion and abuse of scripture, while “Kanitha Gutiri Ngai” celebrated God’s uniqueness and faithfulness. He has also joined other gospel voices, with Isaiah Ndungu featuring him on “Aciari Akwa,” a song about love and resilience.

So his name keeps appearing across Kikuyu gospel releases. Have you listened to “Muroconoka” yet? Drop your thoughts in the comment section below.
