Jamaican dancehall star Shenseea connects with Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Asake on “Playtime,” a lively cross-cultural record that is built for movement. The track lands as the second cut on her newly announced eight-track debut EP, Catalyst, which arrives through Since ’93/Columbia Records.
“Playtime” pairs Shenseea’s smooth dancehall delivery with Asake’s energetic Afrobeats style. Production folds in Amapiano rhythms and Fuji-inspired elements, so the beat pulls from both artists’ backgrounds without losing either identity. It is a record that suits a loud room, a packed floor, or a long drive with the windows down.
The EP also carries appearances from legendary dancehall artist Vybz Kartel and Loe Shimmy. But “Playtime” stands out because it bridges Kingston and Lagos directly, giving Catalyst an international edge early in its run.
Moments like this remind listeners how close Caribbean and West African sounds have always been.
