Canadian singer Tamia stays in the conversation as her classic R&B love song “So Into You” keeps pulling listeners back in.
The record rides on a gentle vocal performance. Tamia lets her voice carry the emotion without overdoing it. Production comes from Tim Kelley and Bob Robinson, the duo known as Tim & Bob, while Quincy Jones also receives a producer credit. The song appears as track two on her self-titled debut album, and it samples the Commodores’ “Say Yeah.” That sample explains why Lionel Richie and Ronald LaPread appear among the songwriters. Mario Winans adds background vocals, giving extra texture behind Tamia’s lead.
“So Into You” found its audience. It reached number seven on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and it peaked at number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song works because it keeps things simple. It is about being deep in love and wanting to stay close to that person. That plain message still fits slow evenings and romantic playlists.
