Tanzanian Bongo Flava veteran Z Anto has finally released an official music video for his classic love story “Mpenzi Jini,” 16 years later. The video arrived on September 22, 2026, giving a long-cherished record its first proper visual treatment. Fans waited years to see this one on screen, but the song already won attention around 2009 and 2010.
The title translates to “Genie Lover,” and the video follows that story closely. A man falls deeply for a mysterious partner, then learns she has supernatural origins. Suspense, romance, and cinematic acting carry the plot, so the “Mpenzi Jini” visual turns a well-loved audio hit into a small drama.
Z Anto, whose real name is Ally Mohamed Ahmad, built his name on storytelling like this. “Binti Kiziwi” and “Kisiwa Cha Malavidavi” remain among his best-known songs. Because those records also tell stories, “Mpenzi Jini” fits neatly beside them.
The 16-year gap helps newer listeners too, while older fans get to revisit the song with fresh visuals. Storytelling records like this one rarely lose their pull across generations.
