DJ Fresh Oman has put together a long tribute mix titled “Best Of Fela Kuti (The Mix)” for lovers of Afrobeat. The UK-based Nigerian DJ stitches together “Water No Get Enemy,” “Gentleman,” “Zombie” and “Lady” on one continuous run.
The mix runs well over an hour, so it plays like a full concert rather than a quick playlist. Fela’s horns, drums and call and response chants keep rolling from one song into the next. Because the blends stay smooth, the groove never really stops.
Fela Kuti built Afrobeat by fusing jazz, funk, highlife and Yoruba chants. His records carried sharp political weight, so a mix like this doubles as a history lesson. DJ Fresh Oman stays rooted in Nigeria even while working from the UK.
He acts as the guide here, and he lets Fela do the talking. He picks songs with clear stories, so even casual listeners can follow along. “Zombie” hits at soldiers who obey orders without thinking, while “Lady” questions shifting ideas about African women.
