Irish band Fontaines D.C. open their album “Dopamine Chamber” with “Six Shot Morning,” a slow synth and bass build that runs 4:56. The track ends in a burst of release, so the payoff lands late.

Apple Music describes the start as a brooding bassline and shooting synths before Grian Chatten’s deep, echoing voice arrives. AllMusic points to chugging bass and searching synths that tick along for a good while. Drummer Tom Coll plays a drum machine here, which gives the song an arcade-like pulse before the live drums join.

The band has a close history with “Six Shot Morning.” They first played it live in Cádiz in August, alongside “Marianne,” before either one was released. A short teaser of the song then announced the album title six days later. That makes it the track that introduced the whole era.

One reviewer calls it the only song that fully explores the album’s dopamine theme, which frames that chemical rush as shelter from the world. The rest of the record turns toward manipulative relationships and heartbreak. Eleven songs fill the album in just over 43 minutes, with “Marianne,” “Mimesis,” “Happy For You,” “Tongue,” and a duet with ROSALÍA among them.

When the band began their arena tour in Lisbon, they closed the encore with it, and fans called the moment ethereal. For listeners who like rock that grows from small details into a huge ending, this opener sets the tone well.
