Fontaines D.C. – Where Is Gone? Ft. ROSALÍA

Where Is Gone? by Fontaines D.C. Ft. ROSALÍA

Fontaines D.C. – Demolition

Irish rock band Fontaines D.C. have released “Where Is Gone?” featuring Spanish singer ROSALÍA, and it marks the first guest spot on any of their records. The song is a slow-building duet built around weeping strings.

It sits on the band’s fifth album, Dopamine Chamber, and James Ford produced the track. Grian Chatten and ROSALÍA trade lines throughout, meeting on a chorus about a love that has frayed past repair. The orchestration stays lush, yet it never swallows the voices. Before this proper release, “Where Is Gone?” existed only as a white-label 7-inch played at listening parties.

The pairing works because of the contrast. Chatten’s voice sits low and worn, while ROSALÍA’s tone floats above it, smoky and restrained. For guitarist Carlos O’Connell, the link runs deeper than marketing. He was born in Spain and raised in Ireland, and he sees ROSALÍA’s work as parallel to what Fontaines have tried to do with Irish music.

It sounds like two artists from different traditions recognising something familiar in each other.
