Skhanga has teamed up with KaMaphanga and Yolokazi for “Thando lwathola kabi,” a new Maskandi-inspired record out through Skhanga Entertainment. The South African artist and producer built the song around modern Zulu sounds, and the result leans on acoustic guitar work paired with contemporary production.

Mduduzi Khanyile plays the acoustic guitar on the track, while Thabiso Shange serves as co-producer. Nzuzo Ndiyazi also worked on the release as co-executive producer. So “Thando lwathola kabi” carries a full production team behind it.

KaMaphanga and Yolokazi add strong vocal presence to the record, joining Skhanga for a song rooted in South African traditional music. However, the arrangement keeps one foot in the present too. It fits neatly into Skhanga’s growing catalogue.

His exploration of modern Zulu sounds continues here as well. With its Maskandi foundation, “Thando lwathola kabi” should appeal to listeners who follow that lane closely. What do you make of the new Skhanga record? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
