Zimbabwean artist MuGaratia keeps building on his melodic run as he drops “NEW YORK,” a new collaboration with Sane Wav. The song appears on his sophomore album “BOY FROM SANTA MARIA,” a 15-track project released under the Purazi banner.
It lands as the mellow ninth cut on the album. MuGaratia and Sane Wav trade melodies across the record instead of trading bars. That choice suits both artists, because each one raps but clearly prefers to sing.
Sane Wav brings his own catalog to the table, including “HOWFAR?,” “Bhimu,” and “LENA.” He and MuGaratia also link up on “4MABABE” with Tocky Vibes, so the chemistry here is not new.
MuGaratia has moved far from his hip-hop beginnings. He passed through the “Galatian” EP and later leaned melodic on “Pemurai Dzose” and “Love Freakquency.” Now he sounds fully settled as a pop act.
The vocal work carries “NEW YORK.” Both singers stay light and unhurried, letting the melody do the heavy lifting. It makes sense on an album about roots and distance.
