PlaqueBoyMax and Jacquees have finally turned their livestream session into a proper release with “Familiar,” a smooth R&B cut that fans pushed for. The song arrived alongside “She Know” as a two-pack, so fans get double the material from the pairing.
Both tracks grew out of Jacquees’ appearance on Max’s “In The Booth” series. The two spent hours recording and producing in front of a live audience, while fans caught clips during the stream and pushed the tracks toward release. “Familiar” alone racked up over 30 million views across pre-release teases, so the demand was clearly there before the song even landed.
The pairing works because neither artist tries to crowd the other. Jacquees handles the vocal weight, sounding comfortable over the elegant production, while PlaqueBoyMax slides in with a verse that fits without disrupting the mood. The video, directed by Nick Mays, leans into the grown-and-sexy framing the song asks for.
Max had already made history earlier this year as the first streamer to earn a Grammy nomination, for “Victory Lap” with Fred again.. and Skepta. That BRITs win gave him a credibility that extends past the screen, so “Familiar” is not a novelty offshoot.
